BAND PROGRAM
Fifth grade students begin with an introduction to fundamental instrumental skills which will allow students to perform together in an ensemble setting. Students develop music literacy and comprehension through the course material to achieve independence through the course materials to achieve independence on their instrument.
Sixth grade students continue to build on the fundamental skills that they have learned throughout their 5th grade time. Students move away from their skill based beginner book and on to more immediate literature. They also are introduced to new performance opportunities, including festivals and contest events.
Seventh grade students continue to build on the fundamental skills that they have learned throughout their 5th and 6th grade time. More advanced literature, in addition to more frequent performance opportunities, including festivals and contest events will be part of the course at this grade.
Similar to 7th grade band student, 8th grade students will further develop their musicianship skills by demonstrating even more control of their instrument and general musical knowledge. Solo contests, band festivals, and frequent performance opportunities are a vital part of this year.
